MILANG CFS NEWS

Jude Aquilina

So far this summer, it has been relatively quiet in the way of callouts for Milang CFS, which is a good thing.

However, the brigade attended a few jobs, including a header fire at Belvidere, and a serious vehicle accident on Ameroo Avenue that brought down powerlines on the 14th of December. Our brigade also assisted in crewing a strike team that was involved with the Onkaparinga Hills fire in late December.

On the 27th of December, Milang CFS responded to a small backyard bonfire in Milang which we had to extinguish. We remind and encourage residents to visit the CFS website for information around having comfort or cooking fires in the fire danger season.

These rules are in place for the benefit of the wider community. Neither the CFS nor SAPOL make these rules but given that they are legislation, when required, fires can be put out and fines imposed.

On a lighter note, the annual barrel race between Milang and Clayton was held recently. This involves crews using charged hoses to shoot water at a barrel from the crew deck of the truck, with the aim of pushing it over the finish line. With the usual sledging, banter and cheating accusations out of the way the race began – and Milang won 3 to 0. We’re pretty sure this is the first time Milang has actually ever won!
