It is with the greatest sadness and sympathy I report, that Carole Elizabeth Linscott loving wife of Mike Linscott passed away on the 3rd of January 2025 aged 84 and married for 66 years.
Carole and Mike had four children Glenda, Stephen, Cathy and Peter (dec).
Mikes parents emigrated from the UK to South Africa and Mike became a Police Officer in the South African police force. He met Carole when she was just 14 years of age and they became good friends. They courted until she turned 18 years of age and then married. Carole became involved in the theatre, music and ballet and both Mike and Carole enjoyed these pursuits.
Politics started to deteriorate in South Africa, and Mike and Carole examined if Australia might be a safer place to live. Mike pursued a career with the Australian Commonwealth Police force and was successful in gaining a position in South Australia.
They eventually arrived in Whyalla but unfortunately, he had missed his Commonwealth training arriving after the start date for training. He then gained a position with The Department of Agriculture.
After some time, he was transferred to Clare, where they both settled into a community routine, and Carole participated in music, theatre and ballet.
After 13 years Mike transferred to Salisbury, where Carole attended the Teachers Training College, and graduated as a qualified teacher. Mike became involved in the management of the SA Scouting movement including their bottle collection centres.
Carole accepted a teaching position in Kangaroo Island where she taught at the Parndana, and Kingscote schools. They moved to KI and Mike successfully became a finance adviser and he also served an executive role on the Kangaroo Island Racing Club board.
Mike and Carole eventually retired and purchased a house in Milang where they both became active members with MADCA. Carole led a group of volunteers organising markets in Milang, raising money which enabled MADCA to purchase the historic Milang Butter Factory.
Carole also provided great assistance to me when she undertook a review of our debtor’s ledger when I was first elected as President and had to undertake an appraisal of our finances.
Carole’s funeral service was held in the Carr Memorial Chapel Mt Barker with a long drive to the Milang Cemetery on the 13th January 2025. The wake was held in the Milang Butter Factory which Carole and Mike had provided many volunteer hours and were active leaders in its restoration.
Carole was an outstanding member of our community, mother to her children, grandma and great grandma, loving wife to Mike and who will leave a big hole in our hearts.
