Stickybeaks visit Port Adelaide Aviation Museum

October’s Stickybeaks saw 10 very keen guys journey to Port Adelaide to visit the Aviation Museum. First stop at the bottom of the Freeway for a cuppa and chat taking in the fantastic weather.
The Aviation Museum has quite a few new attractions since my last visit a few years ago. We were hosted by a very experienced retired RAAF pilot and instructor who spent many years flying Caribous, a short field take off and landing transport aircraft. Our host was extremely knowledgeable on aspects of all the aircraft on display. He certainly impressed us with his experience of military aviation and gave us a very in-depth explanation and also a few personal experiences of his flying days.
One impressionable aircraft the F111, which has seen service since the 1980’s only just recently being retired. When you look at the technological advance over that time, for example no GPS in those days. Gerry Suisted standing under it could not get over how it had been made from all the resources from our earth and transformed by man into such a flying machine. All in all I felt that everyone enjoyed the visit and had a great time.
We then adjourned on to the “Light House Hotel”, where we had a table booked for lunch. We had a great waitress who made us feel most welcome and gave us impeccable service. The meals were a reasonable price with seniors discount well presented and of good quality.
From there we started our journey home with a traditional Mc Donald’s stop for a “soft serve ice-cream” cone. We arrived back in Milang just after 5pm.
