Hi Fellow Garden Lovers
The October trip on the 9th dawned fine and sunny and a puzzle as to what to wear as could be seen by the selection on the bus from summer blouses to winter jackets which were soon discarded.
This trip was programmed to be to the Botanical Gardens in Adelaide but given the fact that at least four members have difficulty walking long distances it was decided to change the venue and we are glad we did.
We went on a guided bus trip to the Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens where we saw masses of flowers from bluebells to dogwoods, but we were not able to get good photos from the bus while having many questions answered by our guide Rob. Following the tour, we had an early lunch in the shade which was a premium, before continuing on our trip to the hills.
Next stop, a new but old Karkoo having closed their Blackwood nursery but have opened another at the old Stirling Railway Station, just as quirky as before but more so. Many plants were added to the bus and a coffee or two were enjoyed on the platform. From here we went to Cleveland Nursery for a wander around before heading for Tupelo’s at Mylor. This caused a few queries as to which way to go as we had never approached it from this direction before, but Peter had his trusty phone on the job but we arrived to find the staff having afternoon tea under the shade of an old oak tree.
A few more plants found their way on to the bus.
From here we headed to Strathalbyn for our Coffee/Tea break and the drawing of the raffle which was won by Peter.
The next trip will be on the 13th November to the Golden Grove nursery plus Costless and others in the area. You do not need to bring lunch if you don’t want to as it is available at Golden Grove.
