BUTTER FACTORY REPORT

September 2024

Another busy month on the weekends, despite some ‘pretty ordinary’ weather on some days making the Winter Warmer Platters a favourite. The Kitchen is operating well with a roster of ladies spreading the workload.
During the month we had a couple of more donations of butter churns, one being a quite unusual type on its own stand, from John and Robyn Sutton of Finniss. Another little project we completed was the resurrection of Claude Sim’s little green trailer, it needed some new wheels to get it mobile and a light clean, really cute. We will use it to display various items in the garden, wheeling it out when we are open.
As reported last issue we were working on the dumb waiter to the cellar, that work is now complete and the Factory is the proud owner of a working lift once again, all be it with an electric winch upgrade.
The large wine rack that we had in the Factory was measured very carefully nineteen times and it was decided that it would just fit down the stairs to the cellar to be used by David of Kanoe Tree Wines as storage, a fitting use for a wine rack. The rack is now being filled by using the dumb waiter to deliver the boxes of wine to the cellar.

During the month we had a change in art exhibitions, with George Cooper, another artist from Clayton Bay, installing his very colourful paintings of local scenes.
While on the art trail, we have some very interesting metal sculptures from Craig of Mad Man Metal, definitely worth a look.

On our working bee days whenever we have a spare few minutes the garden gets a weeding where needed, the plants are doing very well.
The exciting project on the museum front that we have been working on for a long time is now up and running. The paddler is finally installed with its paddles fitted and powered by a small 12-volt electric motor. Last Thursday Norm, George and myself gave it a service, cleaned out all the grease caps refilled them and oiled the moving parts ready to be hoisted up onto its hangers. It was a long time in the planning but it looks and works well, another interactive display for the Butter Factory.
Already Read Books has been doing well again this month, and now have some book shelves courtesy of the closed Milang library to store their extra stock.
The long weekend in October is shaping up to be very busy with music on Saturday and Sunday, so see the advertisement in this edition of the community news for more info.
If any body is wondering about the water running down the gutter from the driveway, it is the overflow from the water tanks, with such a large catchment it only takes a heavy dew for them to trickle over.
Hope to see you on the long weekend.

Cheers
