The Butter Factory has been open each weekend come rain, hail or shine with some great events during August. The Fleurieu Food Festival with Manu was a great success. Sixty guests enjoyed a bush food dinner of many dishes on beautifully decorated tables. The wines were supplied by Kimbolton from Langhorne Creek with a selection to suit each dish served. We also had on stage Outback Overdrive to provide a big range of music for our listening pleasure. We were waited on hand and foot and everyone had a great night.
Another event during the month was the Cellar Treasures weekend, with wineries of the region promoting their wines through tastings and sales. KANOETREE Wines now with their cellar door at the Butter Factory had a busy three days. Sue and David presented their selection of wines, having quite a few vertical tastings, and on Sunday we had the duo Jessi Jasmine and Luke performing an easy listening selection while people enjoyed the wines.
The weekends have been busy in the Kitchen with Karyn, Loraine, Annie, Ros, Cheryl, Cherrie and Suetree with help from John W, Wayne and JB chipping in when the dishes pile up. The winter warmer and Ploughman’s platters a great hit with our customers.
During the month it was also school book week, so the two classes from Milang Primary School visited Already Read Books. The younger class had a story read to them and both classes were able to choose a book to take away. While there I gave them a short tour of the Factory and demonstrated our newest donation, a very well preserved hand operated separator a gift from the well known locals the Newland family, a big thank you to them.
On the ‘reno’ side of things we have nearly finished the cellar windows. Another job we have been doing in the cellar is the refurbishing of the dumb waiter, it has been rust stabilized and painted, new chains eyelets and shackles will be fitted and we hope to have it working in the next few weeks. At the working bee before the dinner, we restored and installed the string of coloured lights that were once across the front of the cottage into the factory pergola, they certainly brighten up the space at night when guests are going to the toilet.
Our deck was scrubbed and washed the other week, it will need a spruce up every now and then.
On a Thursday a couple of week ago Wayne had his birthday and was surprised with a cake and a song at morning tea.
All in all, the open Factory is going well. The wine cellar with KANOETREE wines, the yummy food coming out of the kitchen not just on weekends, but they also have been preparing the soups for ‘Souper Fridays’, we are getting repeat customers and very positive feedback. With Spring approaching and promising some warmer weather I think we will be very busy for the rest of the year.
Cheers JB
