BUTTER FACTORY REPORT – April 2025

The month started with the women from the Strathalbyn Classic Car Club having a tour of the Factory and a very nice luncheon prepared by Karyn. Great to catch up with several well known locals, they had a great visit and some left in very desirable classic cars.

Strathalbyn Car Club Ladies

During the last few working bees we have been fitting and connecting our Honda fire fighting pump to the tanks and then onto the fire reel attached to the side of the building in preparation of a worst case scenario. The CFS Brigades from Milang and Clayton Bay had a training exercise at the Factory lead by Captain Alistair McInnes to familiarise the groups with the Butter Factory layout and water points. On our next working bee we re-painted the water point marker post and hydrant lid for easy identification from the road, hope they will never be needed.
Another job we had to fix was the track rail on our sliding gate, a low slung vehicle had hooked the rail and bent it quite badly, the boys, with much effort banged it back into working order and bolted it down. We need to address the roadside drop off, not a simple job, but we are working on it.

Pip delivers

Pip Vandercamp, our resident archaeology person along with Letho from Clayton Bay supervised the dig in the back yard before the car park got laid.
Pip delivered her findings during the month, numbered, dated, in some cases restored (stuck together what was left) and photographed, so during our next working bee we will be able to put together an exhibition for History Month in May. Thanks so much Pip for a very professional and complete history of our back yard, hope we can do it justice with our display.
The A team during the month had also finished restoring the knock-em down game, we were planning to launch it at the Easter Market, but with the bad weather we decided not to. It looks like the launch will be during History Month, quite fitting really.
Events during the month, Jessi and Luke performed to an enthusiastic crowd of locals on one of our Sunday sessions.
A lively celebration was held for a valued community member John Whyte who turned 7? .
There were games, frivolity and many lies told, altogether a great afternoon.

Johns Birthday Party

Next month starts with a poetry slam on Sunday the 4th, followed by live music on Mother’s Day May the 11th. On May 17th and 18th, the Milang Butter Factory will hold mozzarella and butter making workshops respectively. Being History Month there will be some exhibits and some historic film footage rarely seen before, hope to see you there.

Cheers John Bradford.

Way to travel to the Butter Factory
