March is certainly the month for music. We had four weekends with live music starting on the 2nd with local legend Kerry Forward on guitar and his friend on harmonica, they entertained us with the blues in Kerry’s unique style. A good crowd of 70 plus enjoyed music drinks and Karyn’s food.
Keen to promote live music in the forms of ticketed concerts and a less formal free entry style of format. We have a couple of guitars hanging on the wall, Karyn’s idea, to accept donations towards the costs of these free shows. On the 16th Sam Hissey and Ellie, both living locally, provided an afternoon of classics, fine voices and some great guitar playing. If you come along to these events you can enjoy KANOETREE Wines and the platters etc. from the kitchen. On the 22nd Kathy Smith held a Water Colour Workshop, teaching the basics to 10 or so budding artists.
Sunday the 23rd. Our patron celebrated her 94th Birthday at the Butter Factory. Friends and family came from all over to help her celebrate the special day, music, yarns, food and cake cutting were all enjoyed by the party-goers. For the music Vanessa Lee Shirley entertained, a beautiful voice and playing some of Pauline’s favourites.
The Strathalbyn Rotary Club held their Dinner Meeting at the Factory on the 25th. A group of 24 members enjoyed a set menu meal cooked in the kitchen, some KANOETREE wines, and a tour of the Factory. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque for $1,500 towards the engine purchase. With this wonderful donation we are now able to go ahead and close the deal for the motor, a 14hp Petter, exactly the same as the old power plant.
Wednesday the 26th we had the pleasure of hosting a visit morning and afternoon by Estia village. The two groups of residents enjoyed finger food and a talk and tour. They hope to return in a fortnight with some more oldies keen for an outing. Last Sunday we held our long awaited concert with Allan Webster and the Shelly Jones band. With all the usual crew the Butter Factory and entertainers put together a wonderful afternoon for 70 or more music lovers.
Another thing happening is KANOETREE Wines is having Friday night drinks every fortnight from 4 till 6 the 2nd. One was on the 28th. Just a nice way to finish of the week.
Coming up we have Jessi Jasmine and Luke entertaining on Sunday the 6th April from 1 till 4pm.
DON’T FORGET the Easter Market at the Railway Station and the Butter Factory on Saturday 19th. April.
That’s all for March
Cheers
John Bradford [JB]
