Milang Community Garden

Newsletter February 2025

January is always a busy time at the garden with all the fruit coming in and other crops such as cucumbers, tomatoes, rhubarb, potatoes, onions, (the list goes on) ready for harvesting. The stone fruit varieties are well on the way to finishing, and we have grapes, apples, pears and quinces about to come in.

This January has been particularly challenging as our gardeners are still working to bring the garden back under control after much overgrowth.  Christmas and school holidays also add to the mix where we all have family commitments! Maintaining the watering during the Summer is also a challenge. However, ‘’where there is a will there’s a way’’ and hats off to all our group for putting in extra time and effort over this period, when they could. The garden is looking lush and producing all our favourite produce once again.

Seed collection is one thing that our gardeners do. One garlic plant excelled in producing a giant ball full of seeds!

We are pleased to see some visitors popping in to the garden and taking home some fruit and veggies or just to have a look and a wander around.

We have now started putting excess produce on the cart on Tuesdays.

If you have just moved into Milang and are looking for a way to get actively involved in the community, and have the time to commit to volunteering, come on down and check out the garden. New members who enjoy mucking in and want to learn a bit about gardening, or are old hands at growing stuff are very welcome.!

Our gardeners have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that makes the Milang Community Garden such a productive and beautiful place.

The garden is open every Tuesday morning.
