Two Limericks
by Lindsay Jane Doley
There was a young lady of fifty
who loved to look polished and nifty.
She went to the shops
bought lots and lots,
then said, I really must learn to be thrifty.
There was a young lady called Shane
Who flew first class on a plane.
She made herself comfy
with plenty of munchies
And endless supplies of champagne
Rainbow Lorikeets
by David Cookson
on a twig sometimes
far from fuss
over blossom
in plumage from a kid’s paint box
two may be feather to feather
swapping chat and chirp
in domesticity.
Sunset at the Beach
Jules Leigh Koch
here at the edge
of our sight
the day is closing
with only a few
well rubbed patches of sunset
left
elsewhere the shadows
have rolled down
their sleeves
while pelicans pass
in a straight line
across a curved sky
along the beach
the loose ends of waves
are fraying
as a herd
of caravans
are grazing waterside
BACK AND FORTH
V Farrer
Pushing back and forth
sucking up the dust and dirt.
Arm moving forward and backward
like waves on a beach.
Monotony of life.
Pushing back and forth
swinging higher and higher.
Legs moving forward and backward
cutting through the air.
Freedom of play.
