The weighbridge in the Milang station goods yard was manufactured by Hawke & Company of Kapunda. It was purchased and installed in 1959 by the Milang Grain and Fodder Company which was owned by local farmers and residents. The weighbridge was registered for public use which meant that it had to be calibrated at least once a year using National Standard weights.
Trucks would go to a farm to load with grain or fodder and would then proceed to the weighbridge where their gross weight was recorded. They would then proceed to unload at the large store in Luard Street or at other destinations.
Finally they would return to the weighbridge to be weighed empty so that the net weight of the load could be ascertained. The truck in the photo is owned by one of our volunteers, Allan McInnes.
