POSITION SPECIFICATION

Position Title: Driver – Centre vehicle Type of Appointment: Voluntary Time Commitment: As negotiated with Coordinator

Position Objectives: • Provide safe transport for frail, aged and disabled consumers. • Encourage consumers to continue to participate in community life. • To facilitate participation in accordance with OH&S guidelines.

Position Specification: • Pick up consumers as listed on running sheet at designated times. • Ensure all those traveling in the vehicle (including the driver) wear seat belts unless they have an authority from a Medical Practitioner stating otherwise. • Provide assistance to frailer consumers when transferring between houses, vehicle and Centre and vice versa. • Ensure that the consumer has access to their home prior to leaving area. • Complete and sign mileage logbook, stored in the vehicle at the end of each trip. • Complete and sign running sheet and return to reception at the end of each trip. • Ensure User Contributions are given to Receptionist/Coordinator on duty for receipting. • Ensure the interior of the vehicle is kept clean and tidy. • Comply with No Smoking rules in the vehicle. • Usage of mobile phones whilst driving is expressly forbidden. • Ensure the vehicles fuel is replaced at appropriate times during trips at BP outlets, using the Centre card (list of BP outlets available in folder). Receipts for fuel purchase must be given to the Receptionist on return. • Report any accidents or collisions whilst driving the vehicle or incidents involving the consumer to the Centre Coordinator immediately (envelope in glove box contains sheet of information to collect, if able, and mobile contact of the Centre Coordinator). • Any usage of the vehicle for private purposes must have the permission of the Coordinator. • Charge mobile phone whilst driving; ensure you take it with you when you leave the vehicle. At the end of the trip car mobile phone remains in the vehicle, bus mobile phone is returned to reception. • Report any concerns to Coordinator.

Person Specifications: • Safe driving skills • Possess an understanding of the needs of the elderly and disabled • Patience and a friendly manner • Good communication skills • Respect confidentiality • Reliability and commitment • Skills in assisting frail aged consumers in and out of the vehicle • Ability to take responsibility for own safety and observe OHS&W Policy guidelines.

Job Conditions: • Must hold current driver’s licence-copy to be kept on file at the Centre. • DHS Clearance Checks with positive outcomes required. • Drivers must obtain clearance from a medical practitioner regarding their ability to perform the duties as outlined. • The Centre’s Coordinator, staff and volunteers provide support and supervision for the Drivers. • Drivers are covered by Voluntary Accident Insurance for personal accident. • The vehicle is covered by the Milang & District Community Associations comprehensive vehicle policy. • If unable to fulfil duties the Drivers are asked to contact the Coordinator/receptionist as early as possible to enable a replacement driver to be located. • Any fines imposed for driving offences are the responsibility of the driver and may also result in loss of the privilege to serve as a transport volunteer for this organisation. • Drivers must wear photo identification badge as supplied by MOSHCC. • First Aid Training is an advantage.
